Students say thanks
Pupils at Granville Wells Elementary School sent the Boone County Highway Department this letter of appreciation, displayed by Highway Superintendent Tom Kouns at Monday’s Boone County Commissioner’s meeting. Kouns said that through Feb. 25 the county has spent about $145,000 to spread about 2,575 tons of salt and sand mixture on roads this winter. That’s 650 tons more than last year, but at the same cost. The difference is that Boone County was able to join the Indiana Department of Transportation’s salt bid, which dramatically reduced the cost of salt, Kouns said. The cost and tonnage exclude the last two winter storms to hit the county, he said.
