Happy trails
After years of planning, fundraising and acquiring land, Friends of Boone County Trails have something concrete to show for their efforts. In fact, they have 80 feet of concrete poured to start a 1.5 mile section of the Farm Heritage Trail through Thorntown. Above, Pat, Christ, Steve and Chase McPeak of McPeak Construction are shown working on the path of the trail around the elevator property in Thorntown, just around the corner from where the first concrete was poured Thursday. The Farm Heritage Trail has been a priority of the state, with the Boone County portion being spearheaded by Friends of Boone County Trails. The Farm Heritage Trail is planned to someday join Lafayette to Zionsville through Colfax, Thorntown, Lebanon and Whitestown. “Now we have progress ... progress people can put their feet on,” the trail group’s David Cook said Thursday afternoon.
