Zionsville — Zionsville residents will get a chance to see artists paint the town this weekend during the SullivanMunce Cultural Center’s fifth annual Zionsville Paint Out.
Janet Baker, executive director of SullivanMunce, said artists will gather in Zionsville to sketch, draw and paint historic homes, lush gardens and local landmarks in oil, watercolor and pastels en plein air. A French expression which means “in the open air,” plein air painting is generally used to describe the act of painting in an outdoor environment, rather than in a studio.
“It’s just a real fun activity,” Baker said.
Baker said she has 30 to 40 artists signed up for the event.
The artists meet at SullivanMunce at 7 a.m. with a blank canvas and have until 2 p.m. to go out in the town to create works of art.
The public is invited to view the completed works of art at 2 p.m. Saturday in Lincoln Park. Participating artists will have works for sale and their canvases will be judged by Chris Stuart, who will be giving card awards to the first-, second- and third-place winners.
Artist registration is required and is free to SullivanMunce Cultural Center members.
Art that is created during the paint out will be in an exhibition called Zionsville Paint out: The Exhibition, and will open the night of the Brick Street Gallery Walk on Friday, July 25, and will be on display until July 24.
