The Lebanon City Utilities worker injured Tuesday after a line truck tipped was transferred to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he underwent surgery for a compound wrist fracture.
Jesse Wilhoite, 32, had three plates placed in his left wrist during the three-hour surgery, his mother, Brenda Wilhoite said Wednesday.
Jesse Wilhoite also suffered head trauma and required stitches over his right eye, she said.
Brenda Wilhoite said Jesse also had scrapes on his knee and on his side, “and he has bruises everywhere.”
He is expected to remain at Methodist at least through today and will require four to six months of recovery time, including therapy for the wrist injury, Brenda Wilhoite said.
Despite the injuries, she said the accident could have been much worse.
“He was lucky,” she said. “They were all very lucky.”
The incident happened at Lebanon Middle School Tuesday, when a Lebanon Utilities line truck was replacing a transformer.
While lifting the transformer, the truck tipped to its side, crashing into a wall on which Jesse Wilhoite was standing and causing him to fall about 10 feet.
A mechanical failure may have caused the accident.
