Christopher Coake was voted the “future Stephen King” by his fellow classmates during his senior year at Western Boone Jr.-Sr. High School in 1989.
And 23 years later, he may not be quite at King’s level, but he’s on his way after being awarded the 2012 Indiana Emerging Writer Award, presented by the Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.
Coake went to the Eugene & Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award ceremony last week at Central Library in downtown Indianapolis. But he didn’t know yet that he had won the award. He and two other finalists, Sherri Wood Emmons and Douglas Light, went into the ceremony “Academy Awards style,” Coake said.
