Lebanon — About 100 people — many of them area educators and their families — turned out in downtown Lebanon Saturday morning for a rally for Democrat Glenda Ritz, who is challenging Republican incumbent Dr. Tony Bennett for the seat of state superintendent of public instruction in this fall’s election. Pam Shelby, organizer of the rally and vice president of Lebanon Teacher’s Association, is quoted as saying, “Our purpose is to get Glenda Ritz elected.” Zionsville West Middle School teacher Leanne Thacker said she attended the rally outside the Boone County Courthouse “because we are teachers and we have passion, and Glenda Ritz is our future.” Also attending the rally were Lebanon kindergarten teachers Suzi Boyett and Dana Ford. Boyett wanted Republicans to consider splitting their ticket to support Ritz. “If you can’t vote bipartisan, don’t vote on this issue,” she said. Ritz and Democrat gubernatorial candidate John Gregg both made speeches at the rally.
