Lebanon — After tabling the item at last week’s meeting, the Lebanon Community School Corporation school board of trustees met in a special session yesterday morning to finish the business of selecting which method will govern the process of the corporation-wide building renovation project.
The extra time was needed to finish up some research and tie up what Bob Ross, executive director of resource and operation, called some “very prevalent loose ends.”
“I had some questions I wanted to make sure we could answer and assure our public we were doing the very best job with the money they entrusted to us,” Ross said. “I wasn’t going to enter into something if I wasn’t absolutely sure it was best for the corporation and, most importantly, the taxpayers.”
Upon Superintendent Dr. Robert Taylor’s recommendation, the school board approved the move forward on the project with the design build method, as opposed to the construction bid method.
Design build is fairly new to school corporations, with only a few in the state using it within the last year. But Michele Thomas, board president, wanted to make sure the public knew they weren’t going “way out on a limb” in this decision.
“There are other very good corporations doing this method after doing their own due diligence,” she said. Noblesville and Hamilton Southeastern are also using the design build method for their building projects.
