Research helps boost county’s general fund

By Rod Rose/The Lebanon Reporter

Research by deputy auditor Cindy Poore has increased Boone County’s general fund by thousands of dollars.

Poore has been sifting through the county’s various accounts for several months, searching for funds that haven’t been used or that can be consolidated.

County Auditor Melody Price said Poore began the research after a member of the County Council, which is responsible for county finances, asked about the status of some funds, and whether that money could be used for other purposes.

“It just kind of snowballed from there,” Price said. “We have to be very careful,” she said, because state laws “are very restricted” on how funds in different accounts can be spent. “It takes a lot of research,” she said.

Tuesday, that research paid off when Poore told the Boone County Council it could move $134,000 from the excess levy and tax sale surplus funds into the county’s general fund.
