Boone County —
Officially, three people in Boone County are homeless. Unofficially, that number is probably much higher.
Steve Tyler and Melissa Staton of ASPIRE Indiana’s local office said that number was determined at a Jan. 30 count of “unsheltered” people who were offered a free lunch at Shalom House. The two outlined their findings at Wednesday’s meeting of the Boone County Healthy Coalition.
Defining “homelessness” is difficult, Tyler said. Not included are people who are “couch-surfing” — borrowing a couch or bed from family or friends for a few day, then moving on.
