Community band director steps down from podium

Boone County — Barb Springer feels like it’s time for someone else to take over the Boone County Community Band. So after 11 years, she is stepping down as the director.

The band was formed 20 years ago by longtime Lebanon High School band director Joe Haboush. And today, Springer said, it needs a shot in the arm.

“I’ve run out of ideas of where to go next,” said Springer, who is the band director at Lebanon Middle School. “I think someone with more energy and perhaps a different set of goals would be helpful, just to re-energize it.”

Flute player Amy Morrison said it has been hard over the last 20 years to keep the band together and keep people interested. But she is still going to miss Springer as the director.
