Lebanon — The Caring Center, 1230 Ransdell Court, Lebanon, is prepared to feed 400 families this Thanksgiving thanks to a generous donation from the Crawfordsville Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America. The Pioneers donated nearly 50 frozen turkeys and whole chickens to the Center, which now has a 17x17 freezer thanks to $25,000 raised last year.
“We give a special thanks to the community. We challenged the community on June, and had the money by October,” says Caring Center Executive Director Theresa Hanners.
“There is still room in the freezer,” Hanners said. “We can take more donations.”
The center serves , on average, 400 families a month. That amount can double or triple throughout the holidays. Hanners says the freezer is a “dream come true” that helps the Center meet the demand.
“We’re very proud,” Hanners said. “I’m beaming from ear to ear.”
The Telephone Pioneers of America is a service organization made up telecommunications industry employees and retirees. Information about membership can be found at www.telecompioneers.org.
The Center distributes from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays. Those interested in donating can contact the Center at 765-482-2020 or online at www.thecaringcenter.net.
