Not-for-profits celebrate BOOST from community foundation

Boone County — Covering operating expenses got a little bit easier for a dozen local not-for-profit organizations this summer, when they learned they were getting a BOOST from the Community Foundation of Boone County.

The grants — Building Organizations’ Operational Sustainability Today — are the first-ever given to help agencies that are dealing with an increased need for services and decreased revenue during the economic downturn. A total of $75,000 was granted through the program.

Representatives of organizations that received the grants were guests at a reception Thursday evening at the Sugar Creek Art Center in Thorntown.

The organizations are:

Boone County Cancer Society,

Boone County Community Clinic,

Boone County Historical Society,

Boone County Senior Services,

Boys and Girls Club of Zionsville,

Lebanon Area Boys and Girls Club,

Love INC,

Mental Health America of Boone County,

Morning Dove Therapeutic Riding,

New Life Recovery Home for Men,

Sugar Creek Art Center, and

Youth Action Community Council of Boone County.

During his remarks at a program during the reception, Community Foundation Executive Director Mike Caldwell said that the idea for the BOOST grants was formed late in 2009, as he talked with the leaders of local non-profits.
