Lebanon — Three years ago, Lebanon resident Michael Gideon bought a digital point-and-shoot camera to take photos of his young children.
And as photography became more of an interest, he started getting compliments. People told him he had an eye for it, and that he should pursue it.
The interest turned into a hobby that has now become his own business. And some of his favorite photos are on display this month in the Lebanon Municipal Building.
“I’m trying to get my own business established,” he said, “so when I retire, I have something to fall back on.”
Gideon has been a dispatcher and reserve deputy for the Boone County Sheriff’s Office for the past 12 years. He is also a volunteer firefighter with the Thorntown Fire Department and manages to juggle a part-time job, too.
He now has a booth at the Sugar Creek Art Center and hopes to have his work published someday.
“I always had an interest in photography, but never had the time to do it,” he said. “After I picked up a camera and people said I need to pursue it — now I’m taking the time.”
