Ford Road bridge decision deadline is Jan. 29

Boone County — Millions of dollars in federal funding for a bridge over Eagle Creek in Zionsville are in jeopardy of being lost if county officials can’t agree on a date to start the project.

That decision has to be made by Jan. 29, Boone County Highway Superintendent Rick Carney said Wednesday.

The Boone County Council will meet at 4 p.m. Friday to consider Carney’s request that they approve a commitment to replacing an existing concrete bridge with a dismantled steel truss bridge being held in storage by the Indiana State Department of Transportation.

“We need to have something put together just as quick as we can, just to, hopefully, hold onto our money,” Carney told the Boone County Commissioners Tuesday, before they voted 2-0 to have him send a commitment letter to INDOT.

At risk is $2.5 million in federal aid for the bridge, including engineering and environmental studies and installation, Carney said. The county must pay 20 percent of the total cost.
