Reward offered for arrest of hit-and-run driver

Boone County — A $1,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the person who ran down a Fayette woman on Nov. 25, as she walked across Indiana 267 from her church to her home.

Anita Wernsing, 78, died about 6 p.m. that day, Boone County Sheriff’s Office investigators said. She was walking from Mt. Tabor Primitive Baptist Church to her home directly across the street in the 7000 block of Ind. 267. The vehicle, which may have been an SUV, ran off the road after hitting Wernsing, then continued north. Pieces of the vehicle were found at the scene.

“Grandchildren will now grow up never knowing their grandmother,” said Steve DuBois of Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana, which is offering the reward.

Wernsing’s family and the sheriff’s office are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Tips may be made at 317-262-8477, 800-222-8477, or at CrimeTips.org.

Anyone submitting information may remain anonymous. Only tips submitted directly to Crime Stoppers are eligible for the cash reward.
