Dover — After her third time as Western Boone School Corporation’s interim superintendent, Judi Hendrix was unanimously voted in as the official superintendent of the school district.
The vote came Monday night at the school board meeting. The former assistant superintendent has been serving in Steve Sailor’s place for the past two months.
Hendrix was grateful after the vote and said this has been a long time coming for her.
“I am very excited to lead this corporation,” Hendrix said. “To be sitting in this chair officially now is very exciting. I think we have good things ahead of us.”
Western Boone School Board President Don Lamb said he and the entire board feel very lucky to have someone like Hendrix for the position.
“We are very excited about what we are going to do tonight,” Lamb said at the meeting Monday. “She gives us a lot of continuity.”
Hendrix has been working in the WeBo school system since 1992 and worked as assistant superintendent for 11 years.
Board vice president Jane Faggetti said with Hendrix’s experience in the WeBo school system alone, the decision to choose her was relatively easy.
“It was a very easy decision for us,” Faggetti said. “We were very lucky to have such a qualified person sitting in our backyard.”
Lamb too said her history with WeBo has been and will continue to be a tremendous asset to them and firmly believes Hendrix knows what the school system needs and will serve it honorably.
“Every one of us knows Judi loves Western Boone,” he said, “She has the heart of Western Boone in her mind.”
Hendrix earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and master’s in education psychology from Purdue University. She also received her Ph.D. in educational administration and taught school in Crawfordsville before coming back to Boone County.
In the president's seat
Western Boone County Community School Corp. Vice President Jane Faggetti was voted in unanimously as the 2007-2008 board president Monday night at the board meeting. Faggetti will replace Don Lamb, who will continue to serve as a board member.
“I’m excited to continue the progress we’re making,” Faggetti said.
Faggetti will act as board president next meeting.
Also voted into positions were Mike Biesecker as vice president and Deb Smith as secretary.
