Drianage board passes shopping center, medical office plans

Lebanon — Drainage plans for a shopping center, restaurant and a medical office building were among those approved by the Boone County Drainage Board Monday.

The proposed Schooler Commercial Square will be on 10 acres at the southwest corner of Indiana 334 and County Road 650 South. Bruce Hazelgrove, of Benchmark Consulting in Brownsburg, said the property is being developed by Charles and Verlene Schooler.

“It’s a great retail site,” Hazelgrove said. Two of the north lots front on Ind. 334, he said.

A Taco Bell restaurant is proposed a quarter-mile east of Interstate 65 on one acre south of Ind. 334, said Michael Thompson of CBBEL, Indianapolis.

The board also approved drainage plans for a medical office building at Heartland Drive and Ind. 334, to be built as part of the Anson development.

The board had a tie vote on a request from Morton Farms to build a large pond in Clinton Township. Board member Danny Lawson abstained. State law stipulates a tie vote by some government boards, including a drainage board, is a “nullity,” meaning no action is taken. The board must continue to vote until the request is approved or denied.
