Audit probe outcome to determine Brannon's, Campbell's actions

Questions center on credit card use during brannon’s terms as sheriff

By Marda Johnson/The Lebanon Reporter

The actions to be taken by two sheriffs — one current, one former — hinge on the a decision to be made by a special prosecutor later this month.

Former two-term Boone County Sheriff and present department Capt. Dennis Brannon has yet to decide if he’ll run for the sheriff’s office again this fall.

And present Boone County Sheriff Ken Campbell is waiting for the special prosecutor’s decision to determine what, if any, disciplinary action Campbell will take against Brannon.

The conflicts are based on an audit of the sheriff department’s 2007 books — Campbell’s first year as sheriff. The audit calls into question the use of county credit cards and how payments on those cards were made during the years Brannon was sheriff.
