Boone County —
Despite one of the worst droughts in Indiana history, water use at the Witham Family YMCA’s community garden was surprisingly low in its inaugural year.
“We were surprised; the water costs weren’t really that bad,” Sean Reaves, the YMCA’s membership director, told members of the Boone County Healthy Coalition recently.
“We’re getting phenomenal zucchinis,” Reeves said, although green beans “burned out early.”
The YMCA here, 2791 N. Lebanon St., east of Witham Memorial Hospital’s campus, was the only Y in the greater Indianapolis area to have a garden, Reeves said.
