Lebanon — Perry-Worth first-grader Ryan Keith counts his fingers to add a math sum while playing an educational computer game Tuesday afternoon as classmate Scout Langley, right, also intently plays during Perry-Worth Elementary School’s intervention block. During this intervention block time at the end of the school day, all grades review one English or math standard the students should have learned last year. At the end of the week, an assessment is given. And the next week, students who failed the assessment continue to review the standards, while those who passed are given extension activities, such as learning these math-based computer games. “It gives them a chance to learn something outside (regular curriculum) that’s appropriate for their level of learning,” said Amber Targgart, Perry-Worth principal. “And kids like to be on the computer, so we want to harness that and use it for educational purposes.” Harney and Central elementary schools also have intervention block programs.
