Road disrepair likely to worsen

By Rod Rose/The Lebanon Reporter

Motorists who think Boone County’s rural roads are in lousy shape won’t get an argument from County Highway Superintendent Tom Kouns.

Nor should they be surprised if those roads become worse.

“This is one of the worst spring thaws ever,” Kouns told the Boone County Commissioners Monday.

A particular problem is 96th Street, under Interstate 465, along the Boone-Marion County line. Highway workers are patching the street literally every other day, Kouns said.g formula, Kouns said. “So it’s a decrease in my income ... this year I lost 50 miles of road.”

About 340 of the county’s 780 miles of road are gravel, Kouns said.
