County loses funding for Ford Road bridge

Boone County — Federal funding for a new Ford Road bridge over Eagle Creek has been withdrawn, but Boone County will be given “high priority” consideration if it applies for a renewal of the grant.

The $2.5 million award from the Indiana Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration was first approved in 1995. It was among several projects for which the Indiana Department of Transportation suspended funding at a Jan. 29 meeting.

Tuesday, the Boone County Council approved moving $500,000 into the county’s cumulative bridge fund; that amount represents the 20 percent matching funds the county would have to pay if the bridge is built.

Commissioner Jeff Wolfe said Tuesday he was told by INDOT officials that Boone would have “high priority” for renewal of the funding.
