County moves funds to cover errors

Boone County — Inaccurate information submitted by the Boone County Auditor last year to state officials forced the county council to move more than $3.4 million to cover a shortfall.

The council added $3,310,839 to the general fund; $95,926 to reassessment and $549 to the health department.

“What was entered into Gateway by our prior auditor was incorrect,” said Deanna Willhoite, who took office as the new auditor on Jan. 1.

Willhoite was referring to Indiana Gateway for Government Units, a web site maintained by Indiana University’s Indiana Business Research Center; it gives the public access to local government spending. The site (gateway.ifionline.org) was created with help from the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance and the State Board of Accounts.
