Randels to lead festival parade

Staff report

Thorntown — Autumn arrived earlier this week, and this weekend Boone County residents will witness the first sure sign that the seasons have changed. The Festival of the Turning Leaves returns to Thorntown Friday evening and continues through Sunday afternoon.

This year the parade theme is “Laughter is the Best Medicine,” to honor the 2009 grand marshals John and Vicki Randel. The Randels owned Randel’s Pharmacy, which they sold last year after 27 years in business.

Angie Moody, who co-chairs the parade with Stephanie Jones, said the Randels were the obvious choice for the grand marshals this year.

She said that for 27 years, Randel’s had been “the place to go when you needed something, whether it was a prescription, to ask ‘where do I sign up?’, to make a donation to a cause or to get a cherry Coke.”

She said the couple were always helpful behind the counter — and behind the scenes in the community.
