Boone YMCA finds funding

By Rod Rose/The Lebanon Reporter

Lebanon — The Boone Family YMCA has dropped its request for $200,000 in food and beverage funding from the Lebanon City Council.

More private donations have given the organization “the confidence to move forward immediately” with site excavation, YMCA board president Mark Ransom told the council Tuesday night.

“We hope to see activity possibly by the end of the week,” Ransom said.

A building permit has been issued to the YMCA, Building Inspector Charlie Campbell told the city Board of Works and Public Safety.

A groundbreaking ceremony date will be announced soon, Ransom said.

The YMCA’s multi-million facility at the Witham Health Campus could be open “by this time next year,” Ransom said.

“We genuinely believe a new Y facility will be a tremendous benefit for the city,” Ransom said.

Fundraising would continue, Ransom said.
