Lebanon — First place and honorable mention winners of the fifth annual Keep Lebanon Beautiful contest were announced at Tuesday’s city council meeting.

The city was divided into four quadrants, with one winner and one honorable mention in each area.

Winners were: Bricky and Connie Johnson, 917 N. Lebanon St.; Deb Kilgore and Karen Fletcher, 2432 Lakeshore Court; Jerry and Joan Guthridge, 610 N. West St.; and Jim and Judi Mowry, 604 N. East St. The Mowrys were unable to attend the presentation.

Honorable mention went to Shirley Tanselle, 2017 Garfield St.; Rick and Kelly Deakins, 615 W. South St.; Chuck and Paula Hall, 1116 N. East St.; and Steve and Sherri Rusher, 220 Wendy Lane, who were unable to attend.

The 53 entries were ranked by six judges.

“It’s been a great event for the city,” Lisa Smith, contest chairwoman, said before she and Mayor Huck Lewis handed out plaques.

Stan and Charlotte Beck launched the Keep Lebanon Beautiful Commission five years ago, with the intent of encouraging home owners to landscape their homes. This year’s contest brochure included landscaping and design tips. The contest was sponsored this year by The Lebanon Reporter; the Lebanon Rotary Club and the Witham Foundation.
