Indiana 334 west of Zionsville reopened to traffic late Saturday afternoon, the Indiana Department of Transportation has announced. Crews have completed construction on the bridge on Ind. 334 that carries traffic over Irishman’s Run. Work around the site will continue for the next two weeks.
Poindexter Excavating Inc. was selected as the contractor for the $2 million project.
The project included replacing the bridge, widening the lanes to 12 feet with a 10-foot shoulder, and increasing the elevation of the roadway by 4 feet.
INDOT asks motorists to follow the posted work zone speed limit, use caution and consider worker safety when traveling through a work zone.
In Indianapolis, commuters may still need to plan detours around another closed area, although the state was expecting to reopen most of area damaged in a Thursday tanker explosion by this morning.
Interstate 465 eastbound from U.S. 31 to 56th Street on the city’s northeast side is anticipated to reopen at midnight Sunday. The left lane over the bridge, as well as the I-69 southbound ramp to I-465 southbound, will remain closed through midweek as crews continue repair work underneath the bridge.
According to an INDOT press release issued Sunday evening, Indiana Department of Transportation bridge inspectors, Purdue University School of Civil Engineering and private bridge consultants have agreed that no further structural repairs are required except for the replacement of the vertical support knocked out during Thursday’s incident. Bridge repair crews have been working both day and night shifts to replace the missing vertical support and perform other critical repairs to ensure motorist safety.
Motorists should still expect delays in the area and plan accordingly. The Indiana Department of Transportation encourages through traffic in the area to use alternate routes when possible. Message boards posted along interstates approaching Indianapolis encourage through traffic to follow I-65 and I-70.
Upon the opening of I-465 eastbound, I-865 eastbound will also reopen. The I-465 eastbound ramps to Binford Boulevard southbound and I-69 northbound will open at that time as well. I-69 northbound and southbound remains open for through traffic connecting with Binford Boulevard.
Below is a listing of ramps that are now open and closed at the I-465 and I-69 interchange.
n I-69 southbound ramp to I-465 southbound: CLOSED
n I-465 northbound ramp to I-69 northbound: OPEN

INDOT signal technicians will continue to monitor traffic flow on nearby interchanges and state highways and make temporary adjustments to signal timing. For the most current information, visit the Web site, http://TrafficWise.IN.gov.
