Christmas with a Cop sets sights on 12th year

By Sarah Lang/The Lebanon Reporter

The 12th annual Christmas with a Cop program is now under way, announced the Boone County Fraternal Order of Police Monday in a press release.

More than $40,000 was raised last year to provide around 500 needy children with winter coats and school clothes. But Lebanon Police Department Lt. David Scott, Boone County FOP Lodge No. 110 president, said this year’s fundraising goal is $45,000, because he expects more applications for the program to come in this year.

“Despite the nation’s economic trouble,” he said, “the people of Boone County always find a way to donate to this very worthy cause.”

The entire fundraising effort for this program is done locally without the help of commercial groups, and all the money goes directly to local children. It also encourages a positive interaction between the children and law enforcement and “brings with it the camaraderie of various police agencies” in the county, Scott said.
