Lebanon — A “turkey shoot” will be featured at Saturday’s grand opening of the disc golf course at Abner Longley Park, Lebanon.
What is intended to be an annual event will include two 18-hole rounds, said Vince Brooks, a spokesman for the Boone County Disc Golf Club.
“We are wanting to get first-timers and people new to the sport interested,” Brooks said.
Persons not wishing to compete may play two rounds for $10, he said.
The inaugural includes a canned-food drive for The Caring Center, Lebanon. “We’re going to give a free golf disc to amateurs who bring at least one canned food item,” Brooks said.
Caring Center Director Theresa Hanners said the organization has little time to prepare what she expects will be a higher-than-usual number of Thanksgiving dinners.
“Last year we did 267 meals,” she said Thursday. “We’re preparing for 350.”
