Lebanon — Though some might call Lance Hodge’s commute to work a nightmare, three months into his new job as district administrator for the Boone County Solid Waste Management District, he’s happy with the set up.
Hodge and his family live out in the country, he said, in Porter County’s Jackson Township — nearly 150 miles away — in extreme northwestern Indiana. But it’s a commute Hodge only has to take twice a week since he now rents an apartment in Lebanon to use from Monday to Friday.
“The job’s going great,” Hodge said. “I’m starting to get involved, so I’m enjoying it.”
Hodge, who has worked for numerous solid waste management districts in the state, came to know David Lamm, Boone County’s former district administrator, quite well. Through Lamm, Hodge learned how Boone County’s system worked and what was going on.
“I worked with (Lamm) for 15 years,” Hodge said. “So it was a pretty easy transition for me.”
Lamm resigned from the position at the end of July, and Hodge began working early in August.
Hodge attended undergraduate and graduate school at Indiana University, has worked for state government, and along with other solid waste management districts, he’s been an independent environmental consultant since 2002. He is also the executive director of the Association of Indiana Solid Waste Districts.
