Reorganization opens a new chapter for Zionsville

Zionsville — And so begins a new era for the Town of Zionsville.

A packed house jammed the Beverly Harves Meeting Room at Zionsville Town Hall Monday for the official consolidation ceremony of the two area townships, Eagle and Union, into the town.

After Zionsville Scout Troop No. 358 presented the color guard for the night, Zionsville Town Council President Matt Price gave his opening remarks.

“At 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, the new Town of Zionsville was officially born,” he said, followed by thunderous applause by those in attendance.

Price thanked the luminaries present, including Indiana Chief Justice Randall Shepard, who co-authored a report with former Indiana Governor Joe Kernan that recommended consolidation as a way to help streamline government. He also recognized State Senators Jim Buck and Mike Delph, who created the Government Modernization Act of 2006.
