Carney settling in as new highway superintendent

Boone County — Rick Carney has encountered a few surprises in his two weeks as Boone County Highway Superintendent, but nothing that makes him uncomfortable.

In the 20-plus years Carney has worked at the highway department, he’s “done everything there is do to” with equipment, so paperwork isn’t going to phase him.

“There’s a lot more to it” than sitting in an office, Carney said.

Carney was appointed superintendent earlier this month by the Boone County Commissioners.

“We think we’ve done our due diligence and we’re ready to go forward,” Commissioner Jeff Wolfe said on Feb. 5, before moving to appoint Carney, who had filled in since superintendent Tom Kouns retired in September.
