VFW aids wounded veteran with local ties

Chad Pfeifer, an Army combat veteran who is the defending National Amputee Golf Association champion, was given a $600 donation Wednesday by local veterans groups to help with his expenses during a NAGA circuit event in Indianapolis.

Pfeifer was the best friend of Army SPC Joey Strong, who is the only Boone County resident to be killed in action in Iraq. Strong died Dec. 26, 2006, near Baghdad; his funeral, at Western Boone Jr.-Sr. High School, was attended by thousands.
