Boone County —
After a vote by the Boone County Republican Party earlier this month, Debbie Ottinger remains the chairwoman of the party, but with a new vice chairman, Ken Campbell.
Ottinger and Campbell were elected into their positions on March 2. Campbell ran unopposed, but the race for chairperson was contested for the first time since the 1980s, Ottinger said.
Former vice chairman, Steve Jacob, ran against Ottinger and was unsuccessful.
Ottinger does not believe the fact that her position was contested means there is a rift in the party.
“The Boone County Republican Party has always been strong, and strength comes from different thoughts and ideas,” she said Monday. “We will continue to listen to individuals who are an active part of the party, and will continue to make decisions in the best interest of the majority of the people we represent.”
Steve Jacob supported Ottinger’s belief that there is no rift or split in the party. He just wanted to run for the office, he said.
