Lebanon —
It’s hard to miss the classic cars and “hot rods” that line the streets of downtown Lebanon for one weekend every September. The Back to the Fifties Festival pays homage to a bygone era of poodle skirts, swing dances and the early days of automobiles. Members of Generation Y may only be able to refer to James Dean in “Rebel Without a Cause,” or Danny Zuco and the T-Birds of “Grease” when they think of the Fifties, classic automobiles and the young men who raced them. Jim Gamble of Whitestown explains a different scene when he reminisces about his time with the “Level-Headers,” a car club based in Boone County in the Fifties.
