Habitat invites public to annual fundraiser

Boone County — Habitat for Humanity of Boone County will once again attempt to raise enough money one hour to build a house in at its annual fundraising dinner on March 2.

“Habitat Builds the American Dream” will be from 6:30 to 10 p.m. on March 2 at Palomino Ballroom, 481 South County Road 1200 East. Dinner will be served, and entertainment will be provided by the Wright Brothers.

This is the first time the annual event has been opened to the public, said Stacy Snively of Habitat.

“It’s generally a small group of people, so we’re excited to see the response we’ll get this year,” she said.

This fundraising goal for the event is $60,000, which would be enough to purchase building materials for one home in the county. This is the seventh annual fundraiser in Boone County, said Steve Furste, Habitat executive director, and nearly all of  them have raised enough money for a house. Last year’s fundraiser funded the Wounded Warrior build, where wounded Marine Corps combat engineer Sgt. Jesse James and his family moved into a Habitat home in Advance. Habitat worked with the Homes for Wounded Warriors Program for this build.
