Lebanon — County residents will once again bet their poker chips for education on Feb. 20.
The second annual Lebanon Educational Foundation fundraiser “Betting on Education” casino night will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Ulen Country Club.
During last year’s first-ever event, about 100 people came, said Cheri Goodwin, LEF executive director.
“We had a very successful first year,” she said. “If we match that again, we’ll be thrilled. But we’d like to exceed it.”
The event is a double fundraiser of sorts, Goodwin said. Tickets sold and money raised go to LEF scholarships and programs. The money LEF pays to contract the casino group, the Broad Ripple Sertoma Club, also benefits their charity — the Riley Hospital Burn Unit.
This is the second year LEF contracted the Broad Ripple Sertoma Club to run the games for the event.
“The guys are very relaxed and helpful,” Goodwin said. “It’s a great way to learn some games without losing any money.”
Admission is $40 a person or $70 a couple. Included in the admission cost is a drink from the bar and a bag of chips. Additional bags of chips may also be purchased.
“So realistically, you’re not out any money if you just want to gamble away the first bag (of chips),” Goodwin said.
There will also be a silent auction at the event. Prizes are still being lined up for that, Goodwin said.
The event is open to the public. Reservations are strongly suggested by Friday, but Goodwin said they will not turn anyone away at the door.
