Lebanon — The Boy Scouts are celebrating their 100th anniversary this year. And to commemorate the years, John Hawkins, Sugar Creek district advancement chairman for the scouts, created a display in the Lebanon Municipal Building.
“It’s the troops’ way of sharing the history with the community,” said Scout Master Dustin O’Brien, “and to show the scouts through the generations.”
On display are dozens of Hawkins’ patches from his 66 years of participation in the scouts, old and new uniforms, Pinewood Derby cars and a plaque of names of those Boy Scouts who reached the highest level — Eagle Scout.
“The highlight is there are things people in the scouts 50 years ago will recognize, and things people from 10 years ago will recognize,” O’Brien said. “And for those not involved, maybe it will spark a little interest.”
Hawkins said they wanted to get the word our that the scouts are still around.
“And it’s a lot of fun,” he said. “It’s nothing but fun.”
A second Boy Scouts 100th anniversary display is up at the Lebanon Public Library.
