Lafayette —
A man suspected of committing two armed robberies in Boone County earlier this week was arrested Tuesday.
Anthony E. Herold, 43, of Lafayette, was arrested Tuesday evening after authorities received an anonymous tip. Herold is suspected of displaying a small handgun at robbing the Marathon gas station at Interstate 65 and Indiana 334 on Saturday, fleeing in a light-colored vehicle. Then on Monday, the Holiday Inn Express at Interstate 65 and Indiana 32 in Lebanon was robbed by a white male with a small handgun who also fled the scene.
The Lafayette Police Department received a tip saying that Herold committed both incidents. Boone County Sheriff’s Office Detective Capt. Mike Beard and Lebanon Police Detective Tony Bayles traveled to Lafayette to interview the suspect, who they say admitted the crimes, along with another robbery that occurred in Johnson County early Tuesday morning.
Authorities say Herold said he was recently fired from his job and was trying to support his wife and kids.
He is being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail on local charges and will be charged in the other counties early next week.
“We are proud of the hard work by our responding Officers as well as our Detectives in clearing these cases,” said Boone County Sheriff Ken Campbell. “Also, the cooperation between local law enforcement was a key in solving these multi-jurisdictional armed robberies.”
