Boone County —
More than 400 children participated in the annual Christmas with a Cop event, hosted by the Boone County Fraternal Order of Police lodge, Saturday at the Lebanon Wal-Mart. It was the 15th year for the event, Sheriff Ken Campbell said.
The children, accompanied by parents, met volunteer deputies, police officers, spouses and chaplains at the Wal-Mart at 6 a.m. to spend about 2 1/2 hours shopping for clothing, shoes and other apparel, Campbell said. No toys are purchased because there are two local toy drives.
The Richard G. Brown Memorial Fraternal Order of Police Lodge supports the project by annually raising more than $50,000 through a direct mail program, Campbell said. No professional fundraisers are used.
