Theft suspect allegedly kicks, spits on police

Lebanon — Multiple charges have been filed against a Lebanon man who allegedly spat blood on and kicked police officers as they attempted to arrest him on theft charges.

Gary W. Hensley, 43, 1400 block of South Meridian Street, sustained cuts and abrasions to the face as officers fought to restrain him outside a local tavern early Saturday morning.

“He was compliant, initially, Lebanon Police Lt. Brent Wheat said. “When they got him in the police car, the fight was on.”

It required seven officers to get Hensley under control and safely handcuffed, according to court records.

“Officers used appropriate and restrained force in taking him into custody,” Wheat said.

None of the officers could use a Taser on Hensley because at least one of them was in constant physical contact with him during the struggle.
