Boone receives transit grant for Indy bus service

Boone County — Bus transportation between Lebanon and downtown Indianapolis will begin about March 1, boosted by a Job Access Reverse Commute grant.

Several details remain to be finalized, said Sue Ritz, former executive director of Boone County Senior Services, Inc., who began working to win the JARC grant about a year ago.

“We haven’t signed the contract yet, but Miller Transportation will be the provider,” Ritz said.

Tuesday, Ritz asked the Boone County Council for $20,000 to help with the program. The council asked that she return at its March meeting; Ritz will meet with County Auditor Deanna Willhoite to draft a resolution formally requesting the money, which will likely come from the county’s food and beverage tax fund.
