Harrison leads WeBo past Danville

Danville — The Western Boone girls basketball regrouped in practice Wednesday after suffering a loss to Noblesville the day before.

The team took head coach Rich Schelsky’s message to heart.

Emily Harrison had 27 points and BayLee Mitchell added 14 in a 63-46 win against Sagamore Conference foe Danville.

“We had a tough practice Wednesday,” Schelsky said. “We wanted to get back to being tough. We made sure to hammer home two points: One, we had to get back to winning with our defense, and two, we had to make sure Emily (Harrison) was a big part of the offense. To the girls credit we got the ball inside to Emily today and we played a complete game.”

Harrison scored 21 of her 27 points in the first half as the Stars jumped out to a 34-24 lead at the intermission.

“Without a doubt she stepped up,” Schelsky said. “When you get to tourney time you have to make sure you get good defense and get good shots. She has taken a lot of what I said to heart in terms of taking ownership of the team and making plays. With Nicole out, she is the only one we have with major varsity experience. It is her time now and this was one of the best games she has played.”

Western Boone built the lead to 48-29 after three quarters before cruising to the win.

The Stars record is now 12-6.

Schelsky said he was happy with the way the team responded to Tuesday’s loss.
