Lebanon 10U softball drops opener at state

Lebanon — It was a rough opening day of the state tournament for the Lebanon 10U All-Stars softball team Wednesday night.

After being delayed 90 minutes because of weather, the All-Stars could never get going in an 11-0 loss to Silver Creek (from Sellersburg).

Silver Creek scored once in the first without recording a hit, thanks to three Lebanon errors.

A walk and another error led to a run in the second and a hit by pitch and a double led to a 3-0 lead after three innings.

The visitors broke the game open in the fourth. Lebanon walked seven batters, had seven wild pitches, an error and gave up a triple and a double in allowing Silver Creek to score eight runs.

Lebanon’s best chance to score came in the third inning.

Karis Scott and Abbi Wirey hit back-to-back singles to start the inning and each moved up a base on an overthrow.

But with runners on second and third and no outs, the next three Lebanon batters struck out to end the threat. Lebanon batters had nine strike outs in the game.

Olivia Ward, Natalie Dafoe, Paige Armstrong and Trinity Hancock all drew walks for Lebanon.

The All-Stars will be back in action tonight at 6 p.m. to face the All-Stars from Artesian Little League in Martinsville.
