Lebanon —
Steven Hawthorne is the new head coach of the Lebanon volleyball team.
The move was approved by the Lebanon School Board Tuesday night.
“Coach Hawthorne possesses a tremendous amount of volleyball coaching knowledge and experience and is an outstanding coach that meets our needs and overall athletic philosophy,” Lebanon athletic director Phil Levine said in an email Tuesday night. “I believe Coach Hawthorne is the right fit for our student athletes participating in the volleyball program and he is very committed and dedicated to helping them achieve success on and off the court.”
Hawthorne started his coaching career in 1999 at the Performance Point Volleyball Club in Lafayette.
In 2000, he took over as varsity head coach of Benton Central High School.
He moved on the following years to assist the volleyball teams at West Lafayette and Western Boone High Schools.
During this time, he also maintained several age group head coaching positions for volleyball teams at the Performance Volleyball Club.
In 2006, Hawthorne began to work with the Indy Juniors Volleyball Club program in Whitestown.
He also assisted with coaching the varsity volleyball team at Zionsville.
In 2010, Hawthorne took over as head coach of Guerin Catholic High School.
While at Zionsville and Guerin, Coach Hawthorne coached several volleyball teams for the Indiana Volleyball Academy in Indianapolis and took over as their Club Director in 2011.
Presently, Coach Hawthorne works with the Indianapolis Volleyball Academy and Lafayette Area Volleyball Academy.
Levine said Hawthorne has had the opportunity to work with several Lebanon players at these academy’s and he is very familiar with the Lebanon program.
“He is extremely knowledgeable and understands the female athlete and what it take to make them successful on and off the court,” Levine said. “I am very excited to have the opportunity to welcome Coach Hawthorne as a new member of the Tiger coaching family.”
