It didn’t take long for Western Boone to find the new head of its football program.
About a month after former head coach Jed Richman announced he was becoming the head coach at Lawrence Central, the Stars announced their new head coach Tuesday, Justin Pelley.
Pelley has served the last seven seasons as the offensive coordinator at Brownsburg.
“I’m ecstatic,” Pelley said. “It is a first-class school, community and has a lot of football tradition. It is really exciting. It is a great job.”
Western Boone athletic director Jason Mulligan said that Pelley stood out from a list of candidates “that was more than the last time” the job was open following the 2009 season.
“Justin was born to be a football coach,” Mulligan said. “He lives and breathes the game. From everyone we talked to we heard that he was a gifted play caller. We like where we are at defensively with Coach Travis Brunes and wanted to target someone on the other side of the ball. His offensive philosophy is in line with what we have been doing. The other thing that kept coming up was his loyalty. He is an extremely loyal person and we were looking for that.”
