Dover —
The Western Boone boys basketball team didn’t have just one player step up when they needed it Friday night at Stephen A. Wall Gymnasium in a Sagamore Conference game against Crawfordsville — they had several.
Four players scored in a crucial 13-2 run in the fourth quarter and the Stars won their second-straight game for the first time since November with a 69-62 win.
“We are back on the course now,” Western Boone head coach Scott McClelland said. “We still have things to work on, but we are back on the course. We had multiple guys make big plays in crucial times. That is a sign of toughness, that is a sign of maturity and that is a sign we are growing.”
C.J. McMann scored the first basket of the fourth quarter to put the Stars up 47-43, but Crawfordsville responded with a 6-0 spurt to take a 49-47 lead with 5:49 to play.
Braxton Porter scored the first five points in a 13-2 run that also saw a 3-pointer by McMann, a lay-in by J.T. Whitaker and a 3-pointer by Austin Burtner to put the Stars up 60-51 with 3:17 to go.
Crawfordsville never got within one possession again.
