Lebanon —
It might have been easy for the Lebanon Tigers to look past the North Putnam Cougars in Friday night’s Sectional 25 semifinal at Frankfort.
But the Tigers made sure that didn’t happen. Lebanon led 12-1 three minutes into the game and cruised to a 67-28 win to advance to the sectional final for the first time since 2010.
“I was really proud of the kids for the way they came out tonight,” Lebanon head coach Albert Hendrix said. “This was a game we won big at the beginning of the season and as a coaching staff we were worried about what our intensity level would be just because of that big win early. I think North Putnam has improved since the beginning of the year and our kids came out with focus and intensity. We got off to a good start and that dictated the rest of the game.”
Nick Starkey started the scoring off with an inside basket just 24 seconds into the game, and after the Cougars’ Jake Haste split a pair of free throws, Lebanon went on a quick 10-0 run, capped by a Caleb Brannon 3-pointer. The Tigers built the lead to 17 at the end of a quarter and 25 at the half.
Hendrix said he liked the way the Tigers continued to press forward with the big lead.
