Eagles take down Lebanon 9-0

Carmel — The crowd at Carmel’s soccer field had barely taken their seats before junior Ashlyn McElderry put the Zionsville girls’ soccer team ahead 1-0 18 seconds into the game.

Zionsville easily defeated Lebanon in their first sectional game 9-0.

Zionsville coach Ramon Aguillon said he warned the girls about complacency.

“There are no easy games,” Aguillon said. “We talked about that. As soon as the game started, we said we wanted to start right off the bat. And we scored in the first 20 seconds of the game and that really set the tone.”

The game was completely played on the Tigers’ side of the field as the Eagles dominated possession. They also dominated the Tigers 21-0 in shots on goal.

Sophomore Pooh Lewis scored with 32:49 left in the half to put the Eagles up 2-0.

Then sophomore Caroline Ratz scored the next two goals for the Eagles, one from in- close and one from deep outside the box to put the Eagles up 4-0 with 6:22 left in the half.

To punctuate the half, senior Natalie Estes took a pass from junior Hannah Timbrook and put it in the back of the net to go into the half up 5-0.
