Lebanon —
While it wasn’t quite the same as the first time the two teams met, the Lebanon Lady Tigers did exactly what they needed to do Friday night against Crawfordsville in the sectional semifinals — live to fight another day.
Lebanon never trailed in the 58-43 win that advanced the Tigers to Saturday night’s sectional championship game against North Montgomery (7:30 p.m. at Rosenstihl Gymnasium).
“We are just going to call it winning ugly, and we are just going to keep on winning ugly,” Lebanon head coach Beth DeVinney said. “We are still in the tournament, we are in the top-25 teams in the state in 3A right now, so we are just going to keep on going. We are just going to try to keep going no matter how we have to win — ugly, pretty, whatever it takes; we are just going to keep on going.”
The game was tied at 2-2 when Lebanon went on a 13-2 run to close the quarter.
The Tigers had five different scorers in the run, highlighted by Carly Greene’s six points.
Greene finished the game with 16 points and nine rebounds.
“Carly has the heart of a lion,” DeVinney said. “That is the one thing that as soon as I met her I knew. Carly is a lot like me — she is intense, she is a competitor and she wants to win above all else. She doesn’t care about how many points she scores, she does the dirty work all the time and she is just that type of kid, she is a hard worker. She has a great work ethic. Tonight, she was able to put some of those back up for points, almost had a double-double and did some great things for us.”
The Tigers gradually pushed the lead to 15 by the end of the half.
